My Philosophy

A Current Health System Driven by Illness not Wellness

Over the last 20+ years, I have seen a rise in metabolic-related chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease. The current healthcare system is based on writing prescriptions to treat and manage these conditions, not address the root causes. I cannot accept this is adequate for high quality care.

Root Cause and Evidence-Based Lifestyle Medicine

My mission is to help people understand why they are ill and empower them to make changes to restore their health. While I often need to prescribe medications to treat illness, my approach is to address the underlying cause as well.

We have an increasing and extensive body of evidence that shows lifestyle interventions like plant-based eating patterns are effective treatments for high blood pressure, preventing dementia, cancer and heart disease. We also know that exercise, stress management, avoidance of risky substances, faith and a sense of purpose are also important factors for living well into an old age.

Dedicated to Your Health and Well-being

The olive tree is a timeless symbol of the Mediterranean, resilience, and connection to ancient times. Originating 20–40 million years ago, this remarkable tree has long been revered for its enduring qualities, thriving on rugged mountains and living for centuries, sometimes even millennia.

Olive oil has served as fuel, a moisturizer, and an anointing substance in ancient rituals, underscoring its profound cultural and practical significance. Today, olive oil remains a key component of the Mediterranean diet, prized for its rich polyphenols and health-promoting properties. Olives themselves, often cured and naturally fermented, provide probiotics that support gut health.

The olive branch represents peace, while the entire tree embodies a deeper metaphor. Its sturdy roots anchor it to the earth, drawing nourishment that sustains its growth into a beautiful complex tree with branches and leaves. Similarly, our well-being depends on the “roots” of our health and nutrition, which feed and shape our exterior selves, much like the olive tree blossoms into a symbol of vitality and interconnectedness.
